Lip tint, gloss or mud — which one are you after?

8 August 2026 · 4 min read

Lips are the biggest part of this catalogue, and the names are not obvious if you have not used them.

Lip tint

Watery or gel formula that stains the lip. Very light to wear, lasts through drinks and meals, and fades evenly rather than patchily. Best for a "my lips but better" finish. See lip tints.

Lip gloss

Shine first, colour second. Comfortable, often hydrating, and easy to reapply without a mirror — but the shortest wear of the four. Good over a tint. See lip glosses.

Lip mud

The Chinese-beauty texture that became popular on Douyin. Creamy going on, dries to a soft matte, and delivers the most colour of any of these. Slightly drying, so a balm underneath helps. See lip muds.

Lipstick

The classic bullet. Most control over placement, easiest to build up, and the most forgiving to touch up. See lipsticks.

For hot, humid weather

Tints and muds hold up best. Gloss slides in humidity and picks up hair on a windy day. If you are out all day, a tint under a gloss gives you shine now and colour that survives it.
